About Me

Examiner Recommended Instructor

Driving Instructor Aldershot
I have done quite a few jobs in my years.

I started off working at Halfords in sales and customer care; in essence listening to people and helping them make informed decisions.

I then moved into insurance helping people sort out motor insurance claims by claiming compensation for them. This job required technical knowledge of the law and so I studied and qualified to become a Lloyds broker. I was constantly guiding people through the law and holding their hands through the process to provide help and comfort when they needed it.

I then moved into Reinsurance which lead me to become the training manager for the department claims department. I now had to teach up to 8 members of staff all about insurance law and how to use the computer systems; again, helping non-technical people to learn a technical subject in a fun and informative way.

I got an opportunity to move into IT and became a programmer – I do love problem solving!

I now became an IT contractor and moved between companies. However, in all of those roles I ended up either being the customer or user liaison, trainer or team lead because of my people skills.

Throughout my career I have tended to gravitate towards the training of people and as such have over 20 years experience of teaching technical subjects to non technical people and making it fun.

As far as driving is concerned; because of my love of all things motoring, I decided to take the Advanced Driving Test; which I passed first time. I did this for my own pleasure to see if I was a good driver and it highlighted how many bad habits I had picked up in the 16 years since I passed my driving test – a real eye opener!

Now that I was a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists I had access to various driving courses, one of which was at Goodwood and so I did a course on Skid Control. Whilst being taught the course, I was offered a job at Goodwood as an instructor! Blimey! Apparently I was a natural!

So I became a part time instructor at Goodwood whilst doing my day job of building databases for insurance companies and training people. After a while I thought that I would like to actually be proud of what I did as a job and so I trained as a Driving Instructor.

I trained with RED Driving school (I think 90% of instructors train with RED but don’t quote me on that!).

I passed all 4 exams first time (which puts me in the top 2% in the industry right there) and joined a driving school. After a year of seeing how badly they did things and seeing the quality of some of their instructors, I decided that I could train people a lot better using the skills I had previously used and decided to go independent – I’ve never looked back since!
